Mission

The Korean Studies Center (KSC) at George Mason University provides unique services to both the George Mason community and the Korean American community in the United States by providing opportunities for collaboration and participation in scholarly research about Korean culture and society, including language, history, art, and social, political, and economic issues concerning the Korean peninsula. The center also promotes engagement in international and global issues related to Korea by emphasizing intercultural and interdisciplinary studies of Korea. The center is conveniently located just 15 miles outside of Washington, D.C. on the George Mason University Fairfax Campus, the largest and most diverse university in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Fairfax County is home to the largest Korean American community in the Washington-Baltimore region, and the Korean community in the Greater Washington, D.C. area is the third largest after the Los Angeles and New York communities. KSC plays a unique role in enhancing the relationship between Korea and the United States through its relationships with students, visiting scholars, and the local community.  KSC actively initiates and explores various academic and scholarly projects in an effort to globalize Korean cultural traditions, artistic heritage, and spiritual orientation to promote cross-cultural academic dialogue and engagement.
